As the longest lingering bastion of the British Empire, Hong Kong, has often attracted the attention of historians, media and irreducible ordinary travelers alike. However, anyone wishing to escape the bustle of Kowloon and the crowded streets of the center should be sure to visit Hong Kong, when it's at the time, at least commercial of years — during the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival.

Mid-Autumn Festival is celebrated in a number of East Asian countries, including China, Taiwan, Korea, Japan, Vietnam, Malaysia and Singapore. Originally, the festival commemorated the 14th century Chinese uprising against the Mongols, when rebels spread the word of the revolution on pieces of paper that were hidden in the cakes. Today, however, the Mid-Autumn Festival is a celebration of pan-Asian solidarity and harmony, and generally falls on 15 of the eighth lunar month of the calendar Chinese (often mid-late September or early October).

Anyone visiting Hong Kong during the Mid-Autumn Festival will be treated to a showcase colorful where families make-up and the bright light lanterns throughout the town. Traditionally, lanterns are made in the shape of animals, but more recently, modern technology icons, such as spacecraft and aircraft, were a popular choice.

Addition, the Mid-Autumn Festival is often called the festival 'Mooncake', since mooncakes are traditionally eaten during this time. Mooncakes (or beng yuek) are widely regarded as a delicacy, and are sweet cakes, which consists of a thin skin soft, with a sugary filling oily. Often, mooncakes contain one or more whole salted duck egg yolk in the center the symbol of the full moon, while the filling Actual may vary depending on regional culture.
