Patellar tendon, which is also called "Jumper's Knee," can occur when an athlete or inflammation extends above their patellar tendon. As you can imagine, this can occur as a result of repetitive movements like jumping.

Jumper's knee happens when someone puts too much strain on the patellar ligament. Athletes such as runners, basketball players, volleyball players and football players, often times are those suffering from patellar tendinitis, although it may affect anyone, if strain is sufficient to put the ligament. If you suspect that could be patellar tendonitis, you can usually feel pain when you press on the tendon, which covers directly the knee. You may also experience swelling and stiffness. People suffering from this form of tendonitis usually feel pain when bending the knee. This occurs usually when the patient kneels down or jumps.

Treatment of patellar tendonitis can vary, depending on how bad are the symptoms. In most cases, the doctor will have a radiograph of the knee, just to make sure that there is no damage to the municipality or the bones of the knee. In some cases you may be subjected to magnetic resonance. An MRI helps doctors assess whether the tendon, or determine whether it is worse. Once the doctor can make an accurate assessment, we recommend adequate treatment plan.

Applying ice to the tendon will help in most cases. Ice helps to control and minimize the swelling of the tendon. This will reduce the pain in his knee, and let the tendon heal more quickly. Anti-inflammatory Motrin and ibuprofen are good examples of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory. These drugs will reduce the swelling and pain control. Else is one of the best treatment for tendinitis. Stay away from any activity that causes pain or can further irritate the tendon. Help the body heal itself by giving yourself the rest enough.

A knee brace can help provide support to the knee. Many people with tendonitis do not use them only when they have a problem, but also to prevent problem from occurring in the first place. A well designed knee brace can be a valuable tool for those who suffer patellar tendinitis.

Jumpers knee can often be painful, no doubt. Avoid having to suffer is a key element, especially when based on a knee for sports activities. Make sure you properly warm up before exercise, and wearing a guardian at the knees whenever possible. This will reduce the likelihood of suffering from jumper's knee in the future.
